DISCOGRAPHY OF FLAMENCO DANCERS
Copyright (C) 1994 Guillermo Salazar
The following is a list of the most important LP recordings by flamenco dancers or their companies or "cuadros". While many dancers appear on other recordings of guitarists, only those who are featured as holding or sharing the main billing will be mentioned here. These recordings are for the most part out of print, but are mentioned for their historical value. Many can be found through used record stores, at libraries, or from collectors. Some dancers perform Spanish classical and regional dances as well as flamenco; their recordings are mentioned here also, if flamenco is a major part of their repertoire. One might wonder about the value of sound recordings of flamenco dance since the visual aspect is totally lost, but the total dancer will cherish them for all the other information they offer: how to assemble a dance with singing and guitar, how to creatively count the complicated rythms, when not to click the castanets, how the same dance differs between artists, how flamenco has changed superficially, and how it has basically stayed the same. Dance is principally, although not merely, a visual art form.
